Finding Your Nanny

How many hours have you spent stressing over finding a great nanny for your family? The endless searches on online platforms, the scrolling through social media, the sporadic recommendations from friends, and filtering through the sub-par applicants; it can be exhausting. When you finally get an applicant that you’re excited about, they no-show for their interview or don’t show up on day one. And how safe are online searches really? And do I need a background check? Sound familiar?

On Call Nanny (OCN) understands the labor, stresses, and vulnerability that come with entrusting a stranger into your home to care for the most precious members of your family because we’re parents and nannies ourselves. You deserve an amazing nanny; an individual that you trust, feel confident with, and that your family adores. And you shouldn't have to make it your full-time job to find the perfect fit. Let us do the heavy lifting for you by finding you a wonderful nanny to support your family.

A great family/nanny pairing is so much more than coordinating schedules and pay rates; it’s understanding personalities, communication styles, and values. We take a bespoke approach to our services because we strive for both families and nannies to feel thrilled about their partnership. We are people, not software. Because a checkbox only says so much about the family/nanny dynamic, we go beyond the algorithm.

If you are looking for part-time care and flexible commitments check out our backup-care services as an alternative to hiring a part-time or short-term nanny.

Our Process:

Let's Get Started

Begin by submitting a family questionnaire below to be connected with the On Call Nanny (OCN) Placement Team. We are excited to work with you to find your family’s dream nanny.

We will schedule a free 1-hour consultation with your family via Zoom or a phone call to discuss your specific childcare needs and assess how best to meet them.

We’ll discuss our service and how the Placement process flows, our expectations and legalities, and answer any questions that you may have.

A signed Placement Agreement and receipt of the Engagement Fee are required to begin our search. Keep in mind that a typical nanny placement can take between 2-8 weeks, sometimes longer depending on each family’s unique preference.

Nanny Search

Once OCN has received your signed Placement Agreement and your Engagement Fee, we’ll draft a detailed and engaging job description based on your specific needs and send it to you for review and approval. Once your job description is finalized, you can sit back and relax while we take on the heavy lifting of recruiting your nanny!

Meanwhile, OCN will begin the search for candidates that meet your preferences. On average, we expect to screen 50-100 applicants per placement job advertisement and filter down to the top 1-3 candidates. In order to find you the best fitting nanny for your family, OCN extensively vet your candidates; here’s how.

  • Interviews with the top candidates - more like “getting to know” because it’s so much deeper and enriching than a simple “interview”

  • Work verification

  • Extensive reference checks

  • Google and social media (where allowed) searches

  • Comprehensive 10-point criminal background check

  • Driving record check (if applicable)

Nanny Candidates

OCN presents you with 1-3 comprehensive candidate packets with all the information that we’ve gathered in our search. We will only send you candidates who meet your criteria and would be a great overall match with your family culture.

Great nannies are in high demand and often won’t wait. We would hate for one of our families to miss out on a fabulous nanny so OCN strongly encourages our families to schedule working-interviews with each candidate ASAP.

Hire and Placement

Once you’ve decided and you’re ready to hire your new nanny, OCN will negotiate the terms with the nanny on your behalf. Furthermore, we'll support you through your entire onboarding process, reviewing your offer letters and contract negotiations, and we will introduce you to our preferred payroll providers to make payroll that much easier for you.

The remaining balance or your Placement Fee (15% of the nanny’s annual gross salary) is due by your nanny’s first day on the job.

On Going Support

OCN support does not stop our service at the time of hire. We are there to support any concerns that may come your way, including:

  • 12-month membership to our on-call services free of charge – great for vacation or sick coverage if your nanny is away.

  • Placement Family Handbook full of employer resources

  • Guidance for conducting employee reviews

  • Conflict resolution support
